Go-Fast! Jet-Pack Pilot Breaks World Record at Royal Gorge Bridge & Park

Look up! It’s bird, it’s a plane, it’s Eric Scott, GoFast! Jet Pack Pilot zooming his way to a world record flight across the Royal Gorge, Canon City, Colo. November 24, 2008, Eric Scott, traveled 1,500 feet, between the granite canyon walls, well over 1,000 feet above the Arkansas River, at 75 mph in 21 seconds. Scott flew parallel to the world’s highest suspension bridge in front of several hundred onlookers at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park.

"This is by far, one of the scariest and technically challenging flights I have ever considered attempting, said Scott before the flight. Scott did not wear a parachute and had no backup plan if the flight failed. "If I can make it all the way across the Royal Gorge, I will have set a record for flying a Jet Pack longer and higher and than any pilots before me." And set a record he did, with the ear-splitting roar of the 135 pound GoFast! Jet-Pack filled with hydrogen peroxide pressurized to 600 lbs., or 800 horsepower, with about 30 seconds of flying time.

GoFast!Sports Beverage, Denver, Colo., and the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park have teamed up since 2003 to offer the Royal Gorge GoFast! Games featuring the world’s top athletes in B.A.S.E. jumping from the Royal Gorge Bridge, and bungee jumping, open to the public. Other extreme sports are also showcased at the event. In 2009, the event is scheduled for September 17-20.

BABY WHITE BUFFALO

Royal Gorge Bridge & Park proudly announces the birth of two rare coloration, white buffalo calves. The Park has
maintained a special breeding program in hopes of producing this rare white coloration in offspring. The Park’s Royal White line of buffalo made their first appearance in 2003, at the Western Wapiti Wildlife Park when a white buffalo was brought in for all guests to enjoy. The two bull calves are sired by Chief Silver Bullet, the Park’s three and half -year old buffalo.

The rare white coloration has been revered by Native Americans for centuries and has created many legends. Of the three calves born this Spring, there were two white bull calves, and one brown heifer carrying the white gene. At birth they all weighed around 65 pounds. The first calf, born May 29, 2007, was named Chief Joseph after the Native American Nez Perce Chieftain.

Royal Gorge Bridge & Park is looking for that great special name for the handsome bull calf born June 3, 2007, sired by Chief Silver Bullet. Participants may send their entries via email to pgair@royalgorgebridge.com, list your name, address, phone number, choice for name, and the reason for this name by July 15, 2007. The winning entry will receive a family season passport, for four guests, valued at $125.
